Children's Homes Leading of the Lord the Promise Keeper to start the Children Homes !

In 1997, I met a girl by name Nuka Ratnam Kodi aged 11-13 years near Railway Station, Anakapalli in confused state of mind, seemed depressed and sick. In the course of conversation with her, I remember having seen her in the leper’s colony adjacent to NASA’s office with her physically handicapped father suffering with T.B. and stepmother. In due course her father died and was not well cared by her stepmother. Eventually, conditions led her to become a rag picker and was leading her life with a group of rag pickers at Anakapalli town. Recollecting this, past contacts with her family. nuka ratnam 1 Kodi Nuka Ratnam I asked her ' why you are here like this….. ' she said looking at my eyes after a bit of silence. ' Do I have any one…. ' Tears from feeble eyes. I too shed tears.

She told that she was sleeping with other young ones in the Railway goods sheds. Once she was ill from fever. She could not move for rag picking for a week... no one showed kindness towards me.... then she requested a young person to bring medicine for her fever… he invested Rs.10 ($ ¼ ) for her recovery … then he started to exploit her sexually… I understand that she was abused .…. I noticed bad smell from her as she was not taking shower. I convinced her to take her to a doctor…. She was infected with venereal diseases. I have provided medicines and gave new dresses … and brought her to the children’s home. She was in the home for a month latter her step mother forcibly took her back to earn…… last year in 2008 Nuka Ratnam Kodi came to see me along with her stepmother and requested some financial assistance to perform her marriage with another rag picker. I give little money and assured my help for any needs prevails in the future. But after a period of 6 months her stepmother met me and informed that Nuka Ratnam was committed suicide by pouring Kerosene on her and burnt herself... the reason was harassment, in-human treatment and many pressures from her husband..

In Indian news papers we see several girl children are being killed and sold away to the prostitute houses.

In 1998 after meeting Nuka Ratnam at the Railway station I had the leading of the Lord to start children home to save children like Nuka Ratnam Kodi. Reminiscing my past life with hardships, to continue the education humiliation as a Dalit seeing hundreds of Orphan, Semi-Orphan, Destitute, Beggar,Street children, working in hazardous industries and stretching hands for a handful of food ... just to live.. These uncared children are exposed to extreme weather conditions, and suffer from untreated diseases and wounds. Girls are much more vulnerable as they are sexually exploited...These encounters and eye witnesses led me to start the ' Children Homes ' with a great vision.

But ' I did not have funds and buildings to start a children home… ' only small office we have that time…….. but I could not wait ….. I have the desire to rescue these buds with no time.

I recollected my encounter with the Lord and the word of the Promise Keeper, I took 50 children in 1998 and started Light of Love children’s home. Children were sleeping under the trees and veranda in the compound. God led Ms. Gillie to our place in 1999. She was an ordinary lady not a famous one. See details in Light of Love Children's Home.

NASA responded by starting the Light of Love Children's Homes--one in the town of Tuni, East Godavari District, with 500 children and another in the city of Hyderabad with 50 children--with the support of Scottish Love in Action (SLA) www.sla-india.org. These homes offer new life and hope to these children.

After some time, NASA felt the need to open two more Children's Homes--one with 165 children in Vempadu village, Visakhapatnam District, and one in Chintalapudi, West Godavari District, with 50 children -- with the support of West Side Family Church,US.

We are delighted to report that the Chairperson of SLA, Mrs Gillie Davidson, was awarded an MBE “for services to children in the UK and India” in the Queen's 80th birthday honours list.

GILLIE DAVIDSON (Gillie Amma)

In 1998 Gillie visited NASA along with the QII team consisting of 26 youth from Scotland. The QII team was visiting countries one after another and rendering one time service.

I have seen several orphan children begging in villages, railway and bus stations…sleeping on foot paths and under trees.  I have seen their nakedness—their wounds.  In the winter many gather around rubbish fires as they don’t have any blankets to shield them from the cold.  There are many Lazarus’ being uncared for.   The children have ended up becoming orphans because of HIV/AIDS, accidental death, suicides, ill health, poverty, as well as many other reasons.

I once met a 12 year old girl near a railway goods shed.  She was like an angel—beautiful but she had no place to dwell.  She was living with many other beggars, and as I began talking with her I could see fear in her eyes.  As the conversation went on she told me how she could tell I was genuinely concerned about her health, and began to share with me her story.

She had just entered into womanhood a few weeks back, and was alone.  No one was there to celebrate this rite of passage with her.  After begging for weeks she had become ill with a fever and could not move.  A person offered to help her and bought her some tablets for her fever.  These tablets would have cost him ¼ of a dollar, but he used this kind act as a way to exploit her in her vulnerability.  He told her to have sex with him, and out of fear she agreed.  After this, many more men capitalized on her fear and she ended up unknowingly becoming a sex worker.

As she talked, I noticed that she smelled as if she hadn’t taken a shower in some time, and I could tell she needed medical attention.  She let me take her to the doctor and her wounds were treated.  I gave her new dresses and then requested that she be admitted into a local children’s home.  She was in the home for only a month when her stepmother came and took her…

This child’s story, along with the stories of many other hurting children, overwhelmed me.  I deeply desired to help these little angels, and was led to open my own children’s home.  With no money and no proper facilities, NASA accepted 52 children and a new ministry had officially begun.  We started meeting in a small office, as that was all we had, and the children were sleeping under the trees in our compound.   It was a great feeling to know that these children were now on a new, brighter path in life.

At that time one of my friends suggested that Mrs. Gillie should pay us a visit. Both Gillie and her husband Davidson came, met the children, heard their heartbreaking stories, and were compelled to help.  The next time Mrs. Gillie and I met, she brought with her the QII team, and they laid the foundation for the Children’s Home; however, they didn’t stop there!  They later invited some colleagues and I to Scotland, and there we ended up initiating SLA (Scottish Love in Action).  Initially they were only able to provide support for 100 children, but today SLA now supports 450 children and also provides ongoing support for a public school (they even provide reasonable salaries for teachers!). They also provided funds to build adequate housing for the girls, a dining hall, and the school building.

Now they have taken up an even bigger project.  It is called, “Hospital for the rural India.”  Donors are coming but just as quickly having to go back as we cannot afford to buy the land in order to construct the buildings (the cost of land has gone up unbelievably after the laying of a new four-lane Motorway in our area).  SLA is also planning to raise funds for a mobile clinic to provide the unreached rural areas with much needed medical aid and education.

His plans are far beyond our wildest expectations.

neither are your ways my ways,"
      declares the LORD.

ISA 55:9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

In India I have received several awards, and today our Amma Gillie is being crowned with an award by Her Majesty, the Queen of England.  This award is a great honour to all of the people involved in this work, to those who have sacrificed for the children, and to the people who have given from what they have.

Luke 10 : 35 The next day He took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. `Look after him,' he said, `and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'

“I took 52 children in 1998 and started the Light of Love Children’s Home in Tuni. The children were sleeping under the trees and veranda outside NASA's offices. I did not have funds to start a Children's Home and there was no building, we had only a small office. But I could not wait. I wanted to rescue these young buds without losing any time. I recollected my encounter with the Lord and the word of the Promise Keeper.

"At this time, in 1999, God sent one Gillie Davidson and her team of 26 youths from Scotland to us They spent time here, studied the whole project, and started a charity called Scottish Love in Action (SLA) to support the Children’s Home. Today, SLA is supporting 500 children who live on campus and is providing for all their basic needs and their education.

lol 3Gillie Public School In addition to the Children's Home, NASA started the Gillie Public School in association with SLA. We now offer education from kindergarten through high school, teaching the children in both Telugu and English. Several volunteers from SLA come to teach English and Math. As of March 2009, 40 children were studying post-high school intermediate college and six of them will enter college degree courses.

Additional amenities like school furniture, drinking water, and beds have been provided by Wells for Life (US) www.wellsforlife.org. The Bradley Trust provided funds to complete the top floor of the boys' accommodation block and restrooms for the girls. Then the Van Zomeren family (US) gave funds to build an additional dormitory building for the boys.

There are many children knocking at the doors of the home for admission. Join with us in doing His ministry!

Case Study

The little child in the arms of Mrs.Jyothi Premdas is a new-born baby that God handed over to us. Her father died in an accident while her poor mother was giving birth to the baby girl. When she found out her husband was dead, the mother went mad and could not feed or care for her baby. The hospital doctors asked us to take the child and nourish her. She is now 6 years old. We have named her Arpita, which means 'Offered to God' in Telugu.

Case Study

Rambabu and his brother Babji were brought to the Light of Love Children’s Home in 2000. The parents were lean, unhealthy and feeble. It was soon revealed that they had contracted AIDS and that they would die in a few days. Because of their disease, their own family pressurized them to leave the house. Then they heard about the Light of Love Home through a pastor. So they handed over the children and died in the campus a few days later. Rambabu has completed his intermediate college studies with Mathematics as a specialization and now he is in the second year of his Engineering degree.

Akhila became a destitute when she was 5-7 years old, after her father died from jaundice and her mother committed suicide by hanging herself. The shocked girl got trapped as a servant maid in a house. Her masters forced the girl to work round the clock like a machine under semi-starvation conditions

Eventually she was put on a train by the houseowner who wanted to get rid of her. She got off at Tuni Railway Station without knowing where to go. A drunken rickshaw driver was attempting to seduce the lonely girl when she was rescued by a good Samaritan brought her to the Light of Love Children's Home. In India, the story of most child prostitutes is similar to that of Akhila. If some one rescue them. She is now under the tender care of the Children's Home. Now, this year 2009 Akhila appeared for 10th class examination in July she will join in the college.

Akhila passed the 10th standard exams and now going to the college and doing her 'Nursing' course.

Dr. Premdas, Director of NASA, encouraged Pastor Ratan Raj to start a Children's Home in Hyderabad. The initial sponsors found they were unable to continue their support and so the Children's Home was closed. In 2007, Pastor Ratan Raj, died in a road accident. Dr. Premdas attended the funeral where the Lord guided him to restart the orphanage with support from SLA. Now there are 50 children are being cared for in the home.
